"Sigh I’m in love. To me, this is classic urban fantasy done very well. An intriguing thread of romance woven through adds to the story. Magic, fairies, shapeshifters and a very different take on vampires all rolled together with the classic quest for justice. ... This story was well grafted with characters that pulled you in and had you on the edge of your seat waiting for the end. I had to sneak in a little reading at work just to finish as I just had to know how it ended. A big thumbs up from me and I will be looking for more work from this author" --Bitten by Books, 5 Tombstone review
"For a debut book, this story has an incredibly strong and funny main character ... and a strange and interesting world of characters. ... If I had to grab one word to describe this book, it would be refreshing. Not like a diet Coke or something that’s saccharine and only satisfying in the short term, but refreshing like thinking to yourself, 'Oh, that’s new, that’s different' while reading a plot that could have turned on a dime into well-trod cliche-land. Bachar keeps the story firmly in the present with a quick and witty narrator, and I kept reading." --Smart Bitches, Trashy Books
"Blood, Smoke and Mirrors contains all the things I love the best in books, great internal and external tension, quirky or slightly flawed protagonists, great dialogue, and a captivating story line. It also has a wonderful world. ... When I finished Blood, Smoke and Mirrors, I immediately Googled Robyn Bachar in search of a sequel or a prequel. None were listed as upcoming, but I’ll be watching. Sign me up for book two." --Long and Short Romance Reviews, 5 Book review
"There are some really fantastic bits of laugh craft in Blood, Smoke, and Mirrors. ... The villain of the novel is the masterpiece. Neither Cat's seriously damaged relationship with her father or the creepy Stepford-Vamp character Laura Barrenheart manages to take attention away from Zachary Harrison, newly turned vampire and slick operator. Zachary's character is truly manipulative." --RT Book Reviews, 3 Star review
"Blood, Smoke and Mirrors was a compelling read. Catherine "Cat" Baker was an authentic and endearing heroine – big butt and all. ...overall, I was impressed and glad that I had the opportunity to discover Robyn Bachar. I’ll be looking forward to what she does next. But first I have to get something to eat. I have this insatiable craving for chocolate chip pancakes…" --Paul Goat Allen, Explorations: The Barnes & Noble SciFi and Fantasy Blog
"If Agatha Christie included paranormal elements in her house party murder mysteries, the results would have probably been something similar to Bachar’s short story. The Importance of Being Emily has all of the hallmarks of a traditional historical romance, including very conservative beliefs about a woman’s “place”. However, the story is absolutely doused in occult magic, vampires, mind readers and other sorts of magic. This is a wonderfully imaginative tale that begs a re-read just so that every detail and nuance can be savored." --RT Book Reviews, 4 1/2 Star review
"This is an interesting world, filled with magic and mystery, and Ms. Bachar has written a delightful romance, mixed with suspense and danger. The characters are all well defined, and multi faceted, and the book, though short, is a very satisfying experience. ... I enjoyed watching the romance between Emily and Michael blossom, and I was delighted to see Emily try to fight for the man she wants. I smiled at her jealousy of the mentor who she felt was taking what should be hers, even as she tries to clear his name to make Michael happy. And as the romance between these two would be lovers explodes into heated passion, the story opens up to possibilities not explored before now. There are several surprises in this one, and they add greatly to the overall reading experience. There is a marvelous and surprising conclusion to this one, and I highly recommend it to all who love mystery, magic and heat." --Long and Short Romance Reviews, 4 Book review
"Robyn Bachar has written a very good story in this one with an exciting heroine out to prove herself by showing everyone that she's capable of doing anything she puts her mind to. The plot flowed very well, as to did the wonderful dialogue that was told from Emily's perspective. ... Overall, this was a great short story and one I'd definitely recommend as it illustrated how rules are made to be broken. ... A woman has the right to be with the one she loves." --The Romance Studio, 4 Heart review
"The opening sentence totally pulled me in and grabbed my attention. I instantly knew The Importance of Being Emily was a book I wanted to stay up all night with, and it didn’t disappoint. Ms. Bachar gives us interesting characters, especially Emily’s quirky personality, and a well paced story with dialogue that made it all worthwhile. I love the author’s storytelling abilities, her vision of this other magical world. I loved Emily’s inquisitiveness and her humor. ... For a short story The Importance of Being Emily made a great impact on me." --Just Erotic Romance Reviews, 4 Star review
